How we carry Alex part 2
Or kids want the strangest pets
How We Carry Alex is the story of a boy and his exotic pet. It's an idea that's been rattling around in my brain for years and, as I said before, I felt it was time to do something with it.
The boy is a simple, un-named figure. He's white and male because I'm white and male and I think his behaviour in the story is the kind thing I might have done. Write what you know they say.
Alex is an alligator. In early drafts he was a pretty generic crocidilligator. It took some reworking to create a look that was more alligator-like. I enjoyed the simplicity of research using Google images. It was a lot quicker and easier than going to the library and trawling through oversize books. I do kinda miss that though.
These are the final designs for Alex
There's colour and texture still to be worked on but not right bow.
Next time I'm moving on to some of the bit players in the story. Until then…. Go make something.

Alex is a fundamentally good alligator.
Crocs give aligators a bad rep - unless you live in the everglades.
God bless
